These portraits are an intense interplay between myself as the artist and the subject. Each piece is about more than a physical likeness. The portraits are about a moment in time, an emotional state, and / or particular quietly held feeling from deep within.

The drawings are executed on paper with gesso and charcoal. They are worked and reworked many times. The process is both additive and subtractive. Wiping out of the images as well as sanding happens as often as drawing.
